American soprano Taylor Haines has been described as “an upcoming talent of great vocal beauty and stunning power, matched by her emotional depth.” Taylor has displayed the reach of her talent in a wide range of roles; from Contessa Almaviva (Le Nozze di Figaro) and Alice Ford (Falstaff) to Older Alyce in Tom Cipullo’s Glory Denied. Recently, Taylor made her role debut as Die Frau in Schönberg's chilling one-act opera Erwartung. Other recent performances include house- and role debuts as Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus with Opera San Jose, Alice Ford in Falstaff with West Bay Opera, as well as her European concert debut, with performances in Switzerland and Germany. Upcoming role debuts include Vitellia (La Clemenza di Tito) and Chrysothemis (Elektra).
Taylor has performed across North America and Europe. During her undergraduate studies in Germany, she appeared as Marcellina in a touring production of Le Nozze di Figaro, performing at venues in Karlsruhe, Trossingen, Heidelberg, and the Mannheim Opera. A California native, she has recently been featured as a soloist in recitals with the NorCal Music Festival, performing arias of the Verdi and verismo repertoire, as well as art songs by Strauss and Wagner.
In addition to her operatic talents, Taylor has conquered several heroines of the musical theatre repertoire, including Laurie (Oklahoma!), Marian (The Music Man), Eliza Doolittle (My Fair Lady), and Nettie Fowler (Carousel).
Taylor’s skills have garnered numerous awards and scholarships, including her recent triumph at the Concorso Internazionale di Canto Lirico Maria Amadini in Bellinzona, Switzerland, where she won First Prize. Other recent prizes include Second prizes from the Absalom Stiftung Mozart Competition (2023), New York Lyric Opera Theater Competition, and James Toland Vocal Arts Competition (2019); Third prizes at the Concorso Lirico Salvatore Licitra (2023), Anton Rubinstein Gesangswettbewerb and Palm Springs Opera Guild Vocal Competition (2019); and recognition as a finalist at the Brava! Opera Competition and semifinalist at the Tenor Viñas Contest (2019).
A passionate philanthropist, Taylor has performed numerous recitals and concerts to raise funds for the Freedom from Fistula Foundation, which provides medical care to women and girls in Africa who suffer from obstetric fistula.
Taylor holds degrees from Sacramento State University and San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she studied with the great Wagnerian soprano, Deborah Voigt. She has studied at, among other institutions, the Renata Scotto Opera Program, the Berlin Opera Academy, and the Music Academy of the West, Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, and currently resides in Milan.
